Tracey Myers-Preston commented on Loch Raven post office : Dear Postmaster,
I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the disappearance of two envelopes containing tax payments to the IRS and the Comptroller of Maryland that I mailed on June 17, 2024. These envelopes were deposited in the USPS mailbox located outside your post office at 808 Gleneagles Ct #1, Towson, MD 21286.
This matter is especially concerning because I will now be charged fees related to late receipt of these payments and potentially payments to stop payment on the checks as they were for high amounts. Also, I have no way of knowing if my account information has now been jeopardized.
It is important for you to know this is not the first time I have experienced this issue. A few years ago, I mailed several similar envelopes containing tax payments to the IRS and State in the same mailbox. There was a total of six checks at that time for my and my children’s April 15 payments for annual payments when returns were filed. Those checks were also never received. I observed in the weeks that followed that the outdoor box was removed for a time and then a new one appeared in the same location – the model seemed more secure. When I went inside to inquire about my missing mail, and questions about the changes with the box I observed, I was met with evasive responses and no concrete information about the matter.
I am particularly concerned about the possibility of mail theft and believe you should be made aware of this issue. I would like to ask for an investigation to be activated to help me resolve this matter. Both envelopes could not simply disappear into thin air, and it is quite suspicious that the exact same type of payments to the same intended parties have now gone missing over several years. To date this would mean that four checks to the IRS and four checks to the Comptroller of Maryland with tax payments have gone missing when mailed in that box. In the years since the first incident, I have avoided using that mailbox and either go inside or mail items from the Timonium branch. In June I was unable to go inside as it was after hours and wanted to ensure the envelopes were time stamped due to their nature. So the last time I mailed checks to the IRS and Comptroller of Maryland the checks went missing and when I did the same thing for the first time in years in June they went missing again as well. Clearly there is an issue that must be addressed.
As shared, I am requesting an investigation into these matters as I believe there may be a systemic issue with the mailbox or mail handling procedures. I request confirmation of whether a tracking investigation can be initiated for the June 15th mailings. Given the serious nature of these missing payments and the potential for identity theft, I believe this matter warrants immediate attention. I would also appreciate a written response to this request, so I am able to follow up accordingly.
Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.
